Tyler Paper Offers Vote Recommendations

Dale Wainwright, Republican incumbent, for Texas Supreme Court Justice: In 2002, Wainwright and Jefferson became the first African-American justices of the state's highest court. His decisions have been solidly conservative, and at the same time, he has made diversity of the Republican Party his personal mission.

"Some folks talk the talk, but we walk the walk," he told the Tyler Paper. "And it's not because we want to put minorities in places of power. It's because we appoint the best person for the job, regardless of physical traits. And that's the way it should be."

He faces Democrat Sam Houston, a Houston attorney.
